Description

Essential Responsibilities:

  • In collaboration with Volunteer Program Manager, support all aspects of the Perkins Volunteer Program across campus including:
    • Collection of volunteer jobs from Perkins staff and creation of job descriptions
    • Creation of on-line training modules to support volunteer jobs
    • Recruiting, training, onboarding and recognition of volunteers.
  • Manage implementation of volunteers in direct service across all areas of Perkins.
  • Document volunteer impact including videos and photos of workdays for Volunteer Spotlights, stories, use of Volunteers for Salesforce to collect volunteer data, identification of lead volunteers.
  • In collaboration with Volunteer Program Manager, create and implement volunteer program backend systems including:
    • Creation of volunteer opportunity listings
    • Collection and storage of volunteer onboarding documents
    • Maintenance of our WordPress webpages
    • Data collection and input
    • Helping create and implement our first volunteer survey
    • Helping build out a volunteer leader program.
  • Complete a minimum of 1500 hours of service, serving through June 24, 2023.
  • Attend a minimum of 6 Commonwealth Corps trainings and service events held by MSA post orientation.
  • Participate in a minimum of 1 hour of MSA-related activities each week. This may include filling out timesheets, completing a bi-monthly reflection or check-in, or other MSA-related tasks or activities.

Marginal Responsibilities:

  • Volunteer COVID testing, as comfortable.
  • With other Commonwealth Corps member, support on-campus daily weekday direct service needs such as Perkins students’ safe arrival and departure from campus during beginning and end of day across our three schools.
  • Collaborate with other Commonwealth Corps member to support campus-wide events like our MLK Day of Service in January, Taste of Perkins in May, annual volunteer recognition event (TBD when) and Everybody In!
  • Walk/Move event in October.
  • As possible, identify, train and place lead volunteers across Perkins to support capacity building and sustainability of these volunteer efforts after CC term ends.
  • Be a part of the greater Commonwealth Corps community, including participating in cross-site learning groups, writing a short profile for the CC newsletter, connecting with other members on our online platforms, and attending optional social/service events.

Living allowanceStipend of $1,100 semi-monthly while in service, up to $23,100, minus taxes and withholdings;

  • Extensive training from MSA with a diversity, equity and inclusion focus and other professional development opportunities.
  • Limited reimbursement for travel from MSA to Corps-wide MSA-sponsored activities.
  • Internet reimbursement up to $50/month while required to complete some service from home.
  • Mental Health/Personal Day once per month counting towards 8hrs.
  • The opportunity for at least 10 days of planned absences (may include holidays, does not count towards hours requirement).
Please note that receipt of these stipends/benefits may impact an individual’s eligibility for certain public benefits.
Desired skills, certifications or qualifications

You must be:

  • A Massachusetts resident (see guidelines here) with legal authorization to work in the U.S.
  • 18 years of age at minimum (member age range is 18 – 70+ years old).
  • Excited to give back to your community and interested in developing your skills and gaining new professional experiences.
  • Able to balance service internship commitments with personal commitments in a sustainable way.
  • Fully vaccinated and boosted for COVID-19 and MMR, and willing to follow all COVID-19 safety protocols while on Perkins campus as they evolve (including indoor mask wearing, weekly COVID testing and social distancing as necessary).
  • Comfortable with on-line collaboration tools, e.g. shared calendars, email, shared folders/files (Google Drive, Google Apps) and Microsoft Office (Word/Excel).
  • Self-motivated and detail oriented, highly organized and reliable, able to work independently and on a team.
  • Able to manage multiple tasks with competing deadlines.
  • Willingness to learn new content management systems like WordPress and Salesforce.

It would also be great if you:

  • Have prior experience with MDVI audiences (multiple disabilities and vision impairment).
  • Have previous experience with WordPress or Salesforce.
  • Have previous experience in collaborative environments or volunteering with people of diverse racial, ethnic, cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.
  • Have experience managing volunteers.
  • Speak a language other than English - especially Spanish and/or sign language- multi-lingual candidates encouraged to apply.

Other conditions
Weekly HoursService commitment: 40 hours per week during the following days/times: Monday-Friday 8am to 4pm or 9am to 5pm.
