Central Berkshire Habitat for Humanity

As a Construction Crew Member you will play a vital role in building and repairing homes on a local level. You will learn and perform construction tasks on new and rehab homes; demolition, site prep, framing, roofing, siding, insulation, drywall, flooring, finish carpentry, and landscaping. You will attend site safety trainings and work with staff to maintain a safe and efficient build site. Leading groups of skilled and unskilled volunteers you will make homeownership possible for partner families striving for a better life. No previous
experience in construction required.

Essential

• Actively assist staff, volunteers, and homeowners to build, rehabilitate, or repair homes.
• Offer guidance and leadership to volunteers partnering with Habitat on the construction site and community projects.
• Assist with hands-on construction tasks including but not limited to:
  Demolition
  Site prep
  Insulation
  Roofing
  Finish carpentry
  Framing
  Landscaping
  Drywall
• Maintain site safety through modeling of safety practices and guidelines. Attend safety trainings with construction staff.
• Help with materials management on site and at affiliate storage locations including set up and clean up of project sites.
• Attend required meetings, trainings and events:
  On site and affiliate orientation
  OSHA 30 safety licensing
  First Aid / CPR
  Lockton Safety courses
  MA AmeriCorps Opening Day
  MLK National Day of Service / Veterans Day of Service
  Evaluations with Direct Supervisors and Host Site Manager
  Professional Development trainings & host site events as needed
  Buildin’ it up sessions

Marginal

• Participate in planning, debriefing, and safety meetings as needed.
• On occasion, members may participate in larger community projects such as lot cleanups, community gardens, etc.

Essential Responsibilities:

• Assist CBHFH in the Implementation of the Volunteer Service Enterprise Action Plan:
• Test and assess the elements of the plan to ensure successful volunteer engagement.
• Assist CBHFH to expand the volunteer program county wide by recruiting, assessing, screening, and training volunteers.
• Assist CBHFH in volunteer orientation, appreciation and recognition activities.
• Support volunteers that would assist community residents to enroll in available job training programs and support residents in completion and retention of workforce placements.
• Collect volunteer feedback and data that allows for improved continuous volunteer programming improvement.
• Supervise, manage and support volunteers as they support residents seeking economic and workforce opportunities.
• Train volunteers to assist and connect community residents to available housing, childcare, health and safety resources.
• Complete a minimum of 1,500 hours of service, serving through June 24, 2023.
• Attend a minimum of 6 Commonwealth Corps trainings and service events held by MSA post orientation.
• Participate in a minimum of 1 hour of MSA-related activities each week. This may include filling out timesheets, completing a bi-monthly reflection or check-in, or other MSA-related tasks or activities.

Marginal Responsibilities:

• Participate in relevant CBHFH meetings and training sessions
• Attend and participate in three community meetings a month (Zoom until Safe to hold in person meetings.
• Support workshops and resident training events.
• Support the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program.
• Be a part of the greater Commonwealth Corps community, including participating in cross-site learning groups, writing a short profile for the CC newsletter, connecting with other members on our online platforms, and attending optional social/service events.

• Assist CBHFH in the dissemination of information about available job training and job search programs:
  • Assist CBHFH in the recruitment of community residents to enroll in available job training and job search programs.
  • Assist CBHFH in supporting residents in completion and retention of workforce placements.
  • Assist CBHFH and residents in the completion of Neighbor to Neighbor financial support applications and Housing resource applications (RAFT, ERMA etc.).
  • Collect data during outreach that allows for improved strategic deployment of programming.
  • Recruit resident volunteers and identify three leaders within the neighborhood each quarter.
• Connect community residents to available housing, childcare, health and safety resources.
• Complete a minimum of 1,500 hours of service, serving through June 24, 2023.
• Attend a minimum of 6 Commonwealth Corps trainings and service events held by MSA post orientation.
• Participate in a minimum of 1 hour of MSA-related activities each week. This may include filling out timesheets, completing a bi-monthly reflection or check-in, or other MSA-related tasks or activities.
